Ventura College Wins 20th WSC Supremacy Title

The Ventura College Athletic Department claimed its 20th Western State Conference Supremacy title this week. The Pirates, who own the most supremacy awards in WSC history, added to their overall total for the first time since the 2012-2013 academic year. Ventura held off a close charge by Santa Barbara City College, but finished with an average of 6.58 points to claim the 2017-2018 title.

Ventura claimed its 20th overall Supremacy title thanks to a consistent performance across all 18 Western State Conference sponsored sports (the WSC Supremacy Award doesn’t include performances in the sports of football or wrestling). The Pirates earned points in 17 of the 18 WSC sports they sponsored, including winning titles in Men’s Basketball, Women’s Basketball, and Men’s Tennis. Ventura also boasted the third highest overall GPA of all the WSC schools, with an overall GPA of 3.09.

Coming in a close second place was the Vaqueros of Santa Barbara City. SBCC won an outstanding six WSC titles throughout the 2017-2018 season, winning WSC crowns in the sports of Women’s Volleyball, Women’s Golf, Men’s Soccer, Women’s Soccer, Women’s Water Polo, and Women’s Swim & Dive. Santa Barbara also had the second highest overall GPA on the year, posting a combined GPA of 3.12.

Rounding out the top three was Moorpark College. The Raiders boasted the highest overall GPA of all WSC schools (3.18), and won three conference titles in the sports of Women’s Volleyball, Baseball, and Beach Volleyball.
