VENTURA - It's been a tough season for the Marauder women's tennis team. And it continued Tuesday afternoon, as the Marauders dropped their seventh consecutive match, 8-1, against host Ventura College.
Karly Britton was the lone AVC player to win a match against the Pirates, when she defeated Jessica Powell, 6-4, 7-6 (8-6). Nina Nguimzon dropped the first set against Ventura's Audrey Korbum, 6-3, only to rally by winning the second set, 7-5. However, Korbum easily won the third set 6-2.
Britton teamed up with Laney Ricker and lost a close set to the team of Jia Wiebe and Megan Fleming, 8-6. Sara Harr and Kaity Huston lost by the same score to Therese Doal and Tricia McClain.
The Marauders look to snap their losing skid when they host Bakersfield College on Thursday afternoon at Antelope Valley College. The Renegades defeated AVC, 5-4, at Bakersfield College on Feb. 18.
