Bucs Hold Off Cougars In WSC Showdown
Manser Breaks Cuesta Career Scoring Mark- Plays Her 9th Fielding Position
Team Stats
Cuesta Softball fell to Ventura, 9-5, and was mathematically eliminated from both of the Western State Conference's two automatic playoff berths. The visiting Pirates are now alone in 2nd place in the loop after knocking the Cuesta from contention. The Bucs jumped out early on their host and took a six-run lead in the first three innings, before the Cougars could get on the board. Cuesta's offense got rolling behind sophomores Dayna Manser and Taylor Rasmusson. Manser was 4-for-4 on the day and scored twice to increase her career total to a Cuesta Record 70 runs over the past two years. Manser also spent time in the pitching circle to complete her career scorecard by playing every position. Rasmusson was 3-for-4 and both scored and drove in a run for the Cougars. The veteran duo combined for half of the Cougars' 14 hits on the day. Cuesta is 11-18 overall and in 4th place in the Western State Conference with an even 7-7 record against the circuit. Next week the Cougars host 5th place Santa Barbara on Monday (2:30) and 1st place Bakersfield on Thursday (2:30) to complete their WSC schedule and keep their post-season, at-large, hopes alive.
