The San Diego City College women's soccer team snapped a 5-game losing streak to start the season with a 3-1 road victory over Victor Valley on Tuesday with sophomore Melissa Valadez scoring two goals.
The Knights, who have yet to play a home game, got behind early after Victor Valley put one past City goalkeeper Andrea Kumano in the third minute. The Rams' lead, however, did not last very long as Valadez equalized thirty seconds later off a pass from Elizabeth Hernandez.
City took its first lead of the season in the 37th minute when Maria Verdugo scored her first goal of the season.
Valadez, who led the team with 14 goals last season, found the back of the net once again in the 55th minute to give the Knights some breathing room.
Kumano did her part in goal, saving 12 shots to help the Knights earn their first win of the 2018 season.
The Knights will begin the PCAC season with another road game at Cuyamaca on Friday at 3 p.m. They will finally host their first home game against Grossmont on Tuesday, September 18 at 3 p.m.
