WHITTIER - The Marauder baseball team won a thrilling 14-inning, 11-10, game against Rio Hondo College, Tuesday afternoon in Whittier.
AVC held a 9-6 lead heading into the ninth inning, but the Roadrunners responded with three runs in the bottom of the inning to send the game into extra innings. The Marauders plated one more in the top of the 11th inning, however, couldn't shake Rio Hondo as it responded with one in the bottom half of the inning.
Finally and RBI single by Anthony Parisi which scored Ethan Avant in the top of the 14th inning gave AVC the victory. Ryan Hanzel came in relief of Peter Rejniak and was able to pitch out of a jam as the Roadrunners had runner on second base, who was eventually thrown out at the plate following a single.
Parisi was 3-for-6 with three RBI, including the game winner. John Serrato was 2-for-6 with three RBI for the Marauders.
AVC scored at least a run in each of the first seven innings. Avant, Michael Behen and Kyle Lathrop also had multiple hits for the Marauders.
