LANCASTER - All streaks have to come to an end eventually.
Despite pounding out 15 hits and scoring nine runs, the Marauder baseball team lost its first game of the season falling to LA Valley, 15-9, in the second game of the three-game series, Friday afternoon at Marauder Stadium.
Of the 15 runs allowed by AVC, only nine were earned as the Monarchs benefitted from an inauspicious fielding day by the Marauders after they committed five errors.
AVC had won its first seven games of the season, the second best start in school history. Only the 2007 Marauder team had a better start to open the season as it won its first 10 games that season.
"Five errors, 11 walks and two hit batters. We gave them a lot of free stuff," AVC's Kyle Lathrop said. "We had more hits than they did, so we swung it ok. We knew we were going to lose at some point, but we'll be alright. Defensively and pitching we can figure it out. We'll be able to be in most games."
Lathrop was 3-for-5 with two RBI and two runs scored. Eddie Marcotte was 3-for-4 in the leadoff spot for the Marauders and Jonathan Cornish finished the game 2-for-5 with three RBI. Teammate Blake Leidholt added three hits for AVC.
The Monarchs scored six runs in the top of the seventh inning giving them a 15-6 lead, however, four of those runs were unearned.
AVC looks to get back to its winning ways when it wraps up the series at LA Valley on Saturday.
