(Walnut, CA) A three-game winning streak came to an end as the Mt. SAC Baseball team fell to neighboring Citrus College, 6-4, in a nonconference game Tuesday afternoon at Mazmanian Field.
With the Mounties holding a 2-1 lead in the sixth inning, the Owls put five runs up on the scoreboard for the 6-2 lead.
A late two-run rally by Mt. SAC (13-19) in the eighth inning fell short as Citrus would hold on for the win.
Freshman shortstop Ryon Knowles led the Mounties with two hits in four at bats.
Trailing, 1-0, in the second, Mt. SAC took its only lead of the game on an unearned run, scoring third baseman Ray Mata-Lemos and an RBI single by Knowles, scoring freshman catcher Daniel Ramirez for the 2-1 lead.
After the Owls took the 6-2 lead in the sixth, Mt. SAC answered with two runs in the eighth after designated hitter Andrew Garcia scored on a ground out and freshman first baseman Conner Shepherd came home on a wild pitch, to trail, 6-4.
