LANCASTER - It wasn't the way Marauder softball head coach Cindy Vargas drew it up, but she certainly will take it.
Both AVC and Citrus combined for 21 runs and 28 hits, but in the end it was AVC that pulled off a thrilling 11-10 victory over the visiting Owls at Marauder Stadium.
With the victory, the Marauders remained 1/2 game behind College of the Canyons which AVC hosts on Tuesday. The Cougars defeated the Marauders earlier this season at Canyons.
The Cougars led 5-1 entering the bottom of the third inning before AVC added two more runs following a solo home run by Taylor Roberts. Roberts finished the game 4-for-4 with five RBI and two runs scored.
The Marauders led 9-5 entering the top of the sixth inning before the Owls rallied to score four runs and tie the score. Citrus took a 10-9 lead following a home run in the top of the seventh inning by Alexis Acosta. However, the Marauders tied the score 10-10 following an RBI single by Roberts which scored Sara Weiser who singled earlier in the inning. Alexis Robles' sacrifice flyout to center scored Samantha Arriola which turned out to be the game winner.
Of the 20 combined batters that came to the plate for both teams, 19 of them had at least one hit
