BAKERSFIELD - Just when the Marauder women's basketball team thought it was headed in the right direction in Western States Conference play, it hit a snag Wednesday night as Bakersfield College, winner of only three games this season, upset the Marauders, 73-66 at Bakersfield College.
AVC, which is coming off a double-overtime victory against LA Valley College on Saturday, was led by Destini Price who finished with a double-double, 24 points and 11 rebounds. Jasmine Hayes chipped in with a double-double of her own, 12 points and 11 rebounds.
Following the victory against LA Valley on Saturday, the Marauders trailed College of the Canyons atop the Western States Conference-South Division standings, however, the loss against Bakersfield College dropped AVC two games behind College of the Canyons and a game behind LA Valley College.
AVC had trouble stopping Bakersfield College's Julie Olvera, who finished with 28 points, six rebounds and five assists on 9-of-18 shooting, including 4-of-6 from 3-point range. Bakersfield College had three players score in double figures.
The game was tight at halftime with the score tied 30-30, but Bakersfield College outscored the Marauders 43-36 in the second half.
