Chargers Hold Ventura Scoreless

Cypress, Ca. -- The Chargers are off to a fast 2014 start. Fresh off Tuesdays opening day victory over Glendale, they beat visiting Ventura College 5-0, in a game that lasted only a little under two hours. 

Cypress Pitcher Ryan Hartman got the start and his first win of the season. In six complete innings, Hartman struck out six batters, allowed 2 hits and 0 runs. 

Cypress opened up the scoring in the bottom of the fifth when Matt Tietz came home off a Joe Duffin double into left field. Then in the bottom of the sixth Grant Mayaeux scored off a sacrifice hit by Joe Van Marter who was thrown out at first on the back end of a double play. 

Hartman was replaced in the seventh after loading the bases with no outs by Nathan Kuchta. Kuchta was able to throw the Chargers out of the inning after Ventura loaded the bases two seperate times. In the bottom of the seventh Kramer Ferrell hit a three run homer that also scored Brandon Morones and Joe Duffin. 

In the bottom of the ninth Kuchta was replaced by John Forsythe who pitched the Chargers into a double play that ended the game. 

The Chargers face off against Ventura again tommorrow at noon at Cypress Field.
