For the fourth time this season, the Ventura College volleyball team played a match to the full five sets. On Wednesday in San Luis Obispo, VC evened its season record at 8-8, and evened its five-set record at 2-2 in a come-from-behind 24-26, 25-21, 24-26, 25-20,19-17 victory over Cuesta College. Morgan Gallagher recorded 21 kills, 11 digs, two blocks and an ace while Raphaella Rosales had 13 kills and 26 digs while passing with a 2.05 rating in the win.
The Pirates dropped the first set 26-24 before coming back and leveling the match 25-21 in the second.
Cuesta took the upper hand with another 26-24 win in the third before the Pirates came back from the brink with a 25-20 win to force a decisive fifth set. VC held on to the momentum to claim a 19-17 win in the decider to pick up the match win.
Brooklyn Wallet had 12 kills offensively and four blocks at the net while Shantalle Ruiz had 11 winners and six blocks. Kassidy Wilson passed 38 assists and had 21 digs on defense and Gabby Boado handed out 24 assists with 11 digs. Libero Leslie Perez produced 23 digs on defense. Tatum Teel and Wallet each had a pair of service aces.
Ventura remains in the playoff hunt with the victory, with a match against Moorpark on the horizon. VC hosts the Raiders on Friday Oct. 19 at 6:00 pm at the Athletic Event Center.
