MOORPARK - The Marauder softball team has been putting up big numbers this season, but they were yielded Tuesday afternoon by Moorpark's Caitlin Vinyard as the Raiders ended AVC's win streak at three games with a 4-1 victory at Moorpark College.
AVC could only manage four hits off Vinyard (5-0), who ranks first in the state in wins and second in strikeouts. Both hits by the Marauders came off the bats of Paige Johnson (2-for-3) and Sally Miramontes (2-for-3).
The rest of the Marauders were 0-for-19 against Vinyard, who also struck out seven batters.
"Our bats never woke up," AVC head coach Cindy Vargas said. "Give credit to their pitcher (Vinyard) who had us chasing her rise ball out of the zone."
AVC started the game early with a run in the top of the first inning off Vinyard. However that would be the lone run as the Raiders (5-0) did all of their damage in the bottom of the first inning off starter Kyrstan Cook, who allowed three earned runs.
