SBCC set a school record with 29 first-quarter points on Saturday and went on to beat San Diego City 81-71 to go 2-0 in the SBCC Crossover women's basketball tournament.

The Vaqueros (2-2) hit 40 percent from the field and led 29-10 after 10 minutes and 44-27 at the half.

Destinee King had her third double-double in four games with 19 points on 9-20 shooting and 13 rebounds. She also had four steals and two blocks. Stella Dulay scored a season-high 18, hitting 7-15 field goals and 2-4 from long range. Dulay scored 11 points in the first five minutes as the Vaqueros raced out to a 20-2 lead.

The Vaqueros were 6-13 on 3-pointers while the Knights (0-3) were 3-25.

Destiny Renteria contributed 14 points off the bench, thanks to 3-4 accuracy on 3-pointers. Alyssa Cosio had 11 points, eight rebounds and seven assists while Jocelin Petatan had 13 rebounds (missing her career high by one) and five assists. Morgan Giove added six points and six boards.

"We had 19 assists and that's huge for us," said 13th-year head coach Sandrine Krul. "We came out on all cylinders. We had so many points that we got into some foul trouble and our bench came in and made great plays.

"We had four players in double figures and nine scored. That's SBCC MTXE (Mental Toughness, Extra Effort) basketball in action."

The Vaqueros will play in the Saddleback Tournament, starting Thursday against San Joaquin Delta at 5 p.m.
