LANCASTER - Last season the Marauder baseball team saw itself winning only three games on its home surface.
Only one game into the season, the Marauders have already one-third of that total as they opened the 2017 with an impressive 4-2 victory over visiting Rio Hondo College, saturday afternoon at Marauder Stadium.
The pitching for the Marauders, which was a question mark entering the season, allowed only three hits to the Roadrunners. Rio Hondo (0-1) opened the first inning with two runs following three hit batters and two walks.
That was the only inning that the Roadrunners crossed the plate as AVC followed up with eight scoreless innings.
While Rio Hondo could only muster three hits, the Marauders pounded out 14. The first three batters for AVC, Ethan Avant, Kyle Lathrop and Michael Behen combined for seven of those hits.
Following the first inauspicious inning for starter Andrew Garcia, he settled down, and pitched fived innings allowing only two hits, two runs while striking out five.
Avant, Griffin Hagen and John Reyes each had an RBI for AVC.
