LANCASTER - AVC's No. 2 player Karly Britton lost her first match of the season and the Marauder tennis team dropped its fourth match in a row losing to Santa Barbara City College, 7-2, Tuesday afternoon.
Britton (4-1) lost her singles' match to the Vaqueros' Tyler Bunderson, 6-2, 7-6 (10-8). Britton's loss snapped her four match winning streak in which she had won eight consecutive sets.
"It was dispapointing. It was kind of hard not to think about it, especially after I lost the first set," said Britton referring to the thought of ending her winning streak. "For some reason I was really nervous before the match. I knew I was going to have to battle, but I thought I played well though. I think everybody on the team is going to improve a lot each week."
The Marauders' No. 1 singles player Celsea McGrew won both of her matches including her match against Maddie Seeds, 7-6, (7-3), 3-6, 7-6 (7-1). McGrew teamed with doubles' partner Kaitlyn Huston to defeat Santa Barbara's Julianna Adelman and Kassandra Ortiz, 8-7.
Britton and partner Karlie Heckenliable lost a close match to Bunderson and Lesly Zapata De Lira 9-8, dropping the tiebreaker (7-3). AVC (1-4, 0-3 WSC) looks to get back on the winning track when it travels to Glendale College on Thursday.
