LANCASTER - After suffering a defeat at the hands of Barstow in which it committed an uncharacteristic 29 turnovers, the Marauder men's basketball team responded with an easy 70-54 victory against visiting LA Valley at Marauder Gymnasium.
With the victory the Marauders remained one game behind Citrus, which held on to defeat Victor Valley, 90-88. The two teams meet next Wednesday in what could decide the conference championship at Marauder Gymnasium.
Osi Nwachukwu led AVC with 20 points and flirted with a triple-double after adding nine rebounds and six assists. He also added three steals and two blocks.
"I felt like we played with poise. We won both halves which coach wanted us to do. I like how we passed the ball and we got great shots," Nwachukwu said. "We know we have to turn it up for these last three games of conference. Knowing how bad we played against Barstow, we were able to bounce back. We were ready for everything. It's a really good win for us. We needed this to get our morale back up."
AVC took a comfortable 38-25 lead at halftime. D'Mauria Jones finished with 16 points and Greg Floyd led the Marauders with a career-high 13 rebounds.
