Moorpark downs Vaqueros 70-56

Moorpark used a 14-2 run to open the second quarter and a 9-2 burst to start the fourth to defeat SBCC 70-56 in a WSC North women's basketball game at Moorpark.

The second-place Raiders (19-9, 7-2) posted their third win of the season against the third-place Vaqueros (15-11, 4-5).

Destinee King led the Vaqueros with 16 points on 8-17 shooting with eight rebounds and three blocks. Jocelin Petatan had 12 points, seven rebounds and five steals while Liliana Ponce tossed in 10 points. Jada Clark added nine points and nine rebounds.

The Raiders, 5-1 at home this season, led 31-23 at the half and 46-41 after three quarters. They outshot the Vaqueros 43 to 36 percent.

After a 13-13 first quarter, Moorpark went on a 14-2 run to take a 27-15 lead with 3:43 to go before halftime. The Vaqueros pulled within five on a basket by King, then the Raiders hit a triple with nine seconds left to lead by eight at the break.

The Vaqueros will host No. 10 Ventura on Saturday at 7 p.m. in their final regular-season home game.
