FOURTH QUARTER SETBACK LEADS TO MARAUDER WOMEN'S BASKETBALL DEMISE

VALLEY GLEN - The Marauder women's basketball was in control entering the fourth quarter with a three-point lead against conference favorite, LA Valley.
Unfortunately, AVC hit a wall for the final 10 minutes of the game and scored only one field goal and two free throws, while the Monarchs took advantage and the game, 55-48, Wednesday evening at LA Valley College.
The Marauders were outscored 14-4 in the quarter and were 1-of-13 from the field, 0-for-5 from 3-point range and 2-for-4 from the free throw line. Their only field goal of the quarter came with less than 30 seconds remaining in the game. AVC had one of its worst shooting efforts of the season connecting on only 30.5 percent from the field.
Both teams entered the locker room with the score tied, 29-29, at halftime. The Marauders took advantage in the third quarter by outscoring the Monarchs 15-12.
Shantanel Bivens didn't have her typical night as she only scored six points but pulled down 12 rebounds. Deja Smith led the Marauders with 15 points and Brieanna Perkins connected on four 3-pointers and scored 13 points.
