LANCASTER - Both the Marauder women's basketball team and LA Valley College remained neck and neck in the sprint to the finish line for the Western State Conference-East Division crown.
AVC had no problems with Victor Valley College with an easy 67-34 victory Saturday night at Marauder Gymnasium.
The Marauders led 18-10 following the first quarter, but shot a dismal 2-of-16 in the second quarter and only scored four points. AVC led 22-20 at halftime.
The something clicked for AVC.
The Marauders exploded in the second half and outscored the Rams 45-13 the final two quarters to cruise to the victory.
Brieanna Perkins had her best game of the season as she scored a career-high 25 points, including seven 3-pointers. Deja Smith filled up the stat sheets, finishing with 12 points, eight rebounds, five assists and four steals.
LA Valley College defeated Barstow College and still remains slightly ahead of AVC due to a better overall record, however, both teams still hold identical conference records and split the season series. AVC's final two games are on the road at Citrus College and Saturday at home against Glendale College.
