LANCASTER - The Marauder baseball team saw its winning streak ended on Saturday after a 5-2 loss at the hands of LA Valley College, Saturday afternoon at Marauder Stadium.
Frankie Linstrom and Michael Behen each collected two hits for the Marauders and John Reyes had the only RBI for AVC.
The Monarchs, which won their first game of the season, scored three runs in the top of the first inning off starting pitcher Griffin Hagen following a no-out, three-run home run by Garrett Ouellette.
Hagen, however, was solid the rest of the game as he pitched six more innings and allowed only one more hit, while striking out six, including striking out the side in the first inning after allowing the home run.
The Marauders, which saw their win streak snapped at four games, could only muster two runs against LA Valley starting pitcher Jarrett Rossiano, who allowed only one earned run in 8 1/3 innings pitched. Rossiano did allow eight hits, but AVC couldn't bring many runs across the plate it did in its previous two games against the Monarchs, which the Marauders plated 22.
The Monarchs were already leading 3-1 entering the top of the ninth inning when they scored two more off reliever Justin Rodrigues.
The Marauders tried to mount a rally in the bottom of the ninth inning following an RBI single by Reyes. AVC had runners on first and second but failed to cross anymore runners to seal the victory for the Monarchs.
