MARAUDER WOMEN'S TENNIS OPENS CONFERENCE WITH SHUTOUT OF VICTOR VALLEY

VICTORVILLE - The Marauder women's tennis team opened conference play in impressive fashion as it had no problems with host Victor Valley College, 6-0, Thursday afternoon.
No. 1 singles player Karlie Heckenliable easily defeated the Rams' No. 1 Ally Samp, 6-0, 6-0. No. 3 singles Mary Theurer had the identical score as she defeated Ava Andrasi.
Brianna Maldonado needed one break of serve in the first set to win the first set against Jo Watson, 6-4. Maldonado took the second set easily, 6-0.
The closest match of the afternoon was AVC's (1-1) No. 4 Cornett Wright and Victor Valley's Lorene Conners. Wright dropped the first set 6-7 (3-7), but rallied to win the next in a 10-8 thriller. Wright took that momentum into the third set tie break and won 10-5.
Heckenliable and Maldonado defeated the Rams' No. 1 team, 8-2 and Theurer and Wright won their match as well, 8-3.
