VALENCIA - The Marauder softball team had a tough time with College of the Canyons and lost 7-2, ending its eight-game winning streak, Thursday afternoon.
With the loss, the Marauders fell to 5-1 in conference play, while the Cougars hold a 1/2 game lead with a 5-0 record. The two teams face each other again on April 17 at Marauder Stadium.
Canyons led 7-0 entering the top of the seventh inning before AVC scored two runs, but it was too late. Katie Weiser and Samantha Arraiga each had one RBI for AVC.
The Marauders had trouble figuring out Cougars' starter Joy Velez who only allowed six hits while striking out nine AVC batters.
"Unfortunately, they had timely hits with runners on and we didn't," AVC head coach Cindy Vargas said. "We will keep our heads up and look forward to finishing the first round of conference strong next week."
The Marauders have still won 12 of their last 14 games.
