West LA Leads South Awardees

With their second straight Western State Conference South Division title in hand, the West Los Angeles College Men's Basketball team led the way in the post-season awards. Sophomore forward Mark Carter was named the Player of the Year, while head honcho Anthony Jones was named the Coach of the Year. In the Defensive Player of the Year category Bakersfield College sophomore guard Marcus Jones and Santa Monica College sophomore forward Kyle Young were named the co-Defensive Players of the Year.

Young patrolled the middle for the Corsairs leading the team with 2.0 blocks and 4.6 defensive rebounds a game. Young also averaged 1.2 steals per game. Jones was a starting guard for the Renegades, who averaged 2.5 steals and just under a block a game. Jones was also an aggressive crasher of the defensive glass, reeling in 3.3 per contest.

For Jones, it's his second straight nod as the South Coach of the Year. The Wildcats finished the regular season 20-8 and went 6-2 in WSC South play for their second straight divisional title. It's the first every back-to-back titles in program history for the West LA.

A sophomore forward, Carter did a little bit of everything for the Wildcats. Carter averaged 10.1 points and 8.8 rebounds per game on 55.7% shooting from the floor. Carter also averaged 1.3 steals a game and just under a block per contest.
