Valley’s Gillis and McMillan Named WSC Player and Coach of the Year

LA Valley sophomore James Gillis and Head Coach James McMillan were named the WSC MVP and Coach of the Year in 2016.

Los Angeles Valley College's James Gillis was named the Western State Conference Most Valuable Player, while Monarch Head Coach Jim McMillan was tabbed as the Coach of the Year. It's the third straight year that the LA Valley College Men's Water Polo program has swept the conference's top awards.

Gillis earned the honors after leading the Monarchs to their third straight conference title. Gillis led the team in scoring with 41 goals and was second on the team with 29 steals. Gillis also added seven assists. McMillan meanwhile was named the Coach of the Year for the third straight time and the fifth time in his distinguished career. McMillan help take the Monarchs from the 4th seed in the WSC Championship Tournament all the way to the conference title game and then a second round appearance in the 2016 Southern California Regional Playoffs.
