Canyons Wins East Title and Two of Three Post-Season Awards

The College of the Canyons Softball program won it's first ever Western State Conference East Division title recently, making it their 15th overall WSC divisional crown, tying Moorpark College for most divisional titles in WSC Softball history.

The Cougars added to their arsenal in the post-season awards category with Head Coach John Wissmath winning Coach of the Year honors in the division and sophomore short stop Danielle Chatman Player of the Year honors. Antelope Valley College sophomore right hander Taylor Roberts would round out the awards, by being named Pitcher of the Year.

Canyons would finish the regular season 26-14 overall and a perfect 16-0 in WSC East play. The perfect conference finish, the Cougars second under 11th Year Head Coach Wissmath, giving Wissmath his second Coach of the Year nod in the last two years.

Chatman was the engine of a solid Canyons squad, that was third in the entire WSC in runs scored. Chatman hit .444 on the season with a .520 on-base percentage. Chatman slugged .897 (second in the WSC), swatting 16 doubles, 11 home runs, and four triples. Chatman drove in 52 runs and scored 31, swiping 14 bags in the process.
