The 2019 Western State Conference North Division Women's Soccer awards have been announced. Santa Barbara City College sophomore forward Mekaylla White was named the Offensive Player of the Year, while Allan Hancock College sophomore Jennifer Perez was named the Defensive Player of the Year. Sophomores Magaly Avila and Aracely Castro of Cuesta College and Ventura College were both named the Goalkeepers of the Year, while Hancock's manager Bill Vinnedge was named the Coach of the Year.
White helped guide the Vaqueros to the 2019 WSC North Championship. White led the WSC North in goals scored with 19, and finished second in points with 40 on the season. White's goals came in bunches during conference play, as she notched three hat tricks against WSC North competition. In a win at home against Oxnard College, White scored three times and added an assist for the Pirates.
Perez anchored a Bulldog defense that allowed just a 1.40 GAA in 2019, down a full two points from their 2019 performance. Perez and the Bulldogs allowed just 31 goals this season, including 17 in WSC play. Perez also added an assist this past year.
Avila finished 2019 with a .837 save percentage in goal for the Cougars, the second best in WSC play. Avila posted a 1.37 GAA and notched four shutouts during the year. Castro would finish tops in the WSC North in shutouts, posting eight. She also ended up third with a .787 save percentage and second with a 0.80 GAA.
In his first season at the helm of the women's program, Vinnedge guided the Bulldogs to their most successful season in program history this past year. Allan Hancock went 8-9-6 on the season and 4-5-3 in conference play. Most importantly Allan Hancock qualified for the playoffs for the first time in program history.
