Chargers Stroll to 6-0 Start with Victory Over Eagles
CYPRESS, CA - The Cypress Chargers (5-0) earned their sixth win against the LA Mission Eagles (2-5) Saturday afternoon, 6-2.

CYPRESS, CA - The Cypress Chargers (5-0) earned their sixth win against the LA Mission Eagles (2-5) Saturday afternoon, 6-2.
In what felt like the first sunny day in a long time, Cypress softball celebrated with a victory over the LA Mission Eagles. It was a slow first three innings for both lineups as neither side was able to cross home plate. In the fourth, the Eagles broke through first with an RBI hit to take the lead.
The Chargers were not down long as they knotted it back up in the bottom of the frame. Jaylene Duarte got the offense started for the home squad with a leadoff single. Julia Doan reached from a fielder's choice but stole second to put the Chargers first runner in scoring position of the afternoon. After two quick outs, Makayla Motis knocked in the tying run, 1-1.
Mikala Jacobsen helped Cypress earn the lead with a run-scoring hit. The two out rally continued with a two-RBI single up the middle by Lizbeth Gomez. The Chargers bats woke up in the fourth inning to collect four runs and take the lead, 4-1. Cypress kept the pressure on in the fifth as they tallied an additional insurance run. After a Kimberley MacPherson single, Duarte smacked the ball over the left fielder's head for another RBI hit. Doan reached on a perfectly placed drag bunt and Kaitlyn Reynolds was hit by the pitch to load the bases. Motis launched the ball to right field for an RBI sacrifice fly out to extend the lead, 6-1.
To start the sixth, Doan helped Reynolds out with a diving catch to prevent an Eagles baserunner. Though LA Mission threatened in their final opportunity, Cypress's lead was too large. The Chargers held the LA Mission to two runs and finished off their victory, 6-2. At the top of the lineup, Duarte had a successful day with her 2-3 showing, RBI double and run scored. Motis found two RBI's as she went 1-3 and also scored a run. Reynolds pitched the majority of the afternoon with 6.1 frames and struck four batters. Alexis Montez closed out the game with 0.2 innings with only one run allowed. With their win on Saturday, the Chargers remain undefeated with a 6-0 record.
UP NEXT: Cypress will remain home with a game against the Cerritos Falcons on Monday, February 12th. First pitch will be at 2pm.
