Tigers Cruise Past Corsairs

Riverside City College got back on track with an 88-71 victory over Santa Monica College Wednesday afternoon.

The Tigers improve to 7-4 overall, while the Corsairs drop to 2-5 on the year.

Ariel Perkins led three Tigers scoring in double figures after finishing with 25 points on 11-of-15 shooting. She added 13 rebounds and five assists to grab her second double-double of the year. Talia Washington followed with 20 points (6-for-17), while N'Dya Parks added 14 points (6-for-14) and chipped in 14 boards.

As a team, RCC shot well (43.9 percent), despite three-pointers not falling (18.8 percent).

The Tigers took care of business at the line, hitting 13 of 16 free throws, including the very first point of the night after Santa Monica started with a technical foul.

Riverside opened to a double-digit lead heading into the second quarter after an Ariana Ramirez steal to fastbreak layup and never looked back.

RCC built as much as a 25-point upper hand in the second quarter and had to fend off the Corsairs' comeback attempt in the third after SMC pulled within four with 30 seconds left in the quarter.

With 7:47 on the clock, Parks stole the ball away and found Perkins on the counterattack to give RCC back its double-digit lead, and the visitors held on for the 88-71 victory.

The Tigers return home to host Grossmont College on Friday, tipping off at 6 p.m. in Wheelock Gym.
