VISALIA - The Marauder women's basketball team only shot 26 percent from the field and was defeated by San Joaquin Delta College, 54-43, in the opening round of the 40th annual Gilcrest Tournament hosted by College of the Sequoias.
Deja Smith led the Marauders (2-6) with 15 points and 10 rebounds and Makaela Manson added 13 points and eight rebounds. Manson also netted four 3-pointers.
AVC shot only 13-of 50 from the field and 7-of-28 from 3-point range. The Marauders were plagued by 24 turnovers, while Delta only committed 12.
