Volleyball Falls in a Thrilling Five-Set Showdown against Canyons

BAKERSFIELD, CA - In a thrilling five-set showdown, the Bakersfield College Volleyball team fought valiantly against the College of the Canyons Cougars but ultimately fell just short, losing 3-2. Despite the Renegade's impressive team effort and individual standout performances, Canyons managed to clinch the victory in the final set. Canyons 3, Bakersfield 2 (20-25, 27-25, 25-22, 16-25, 15-7)

  • Set 1: Bakersfield opened strong, taking the first set 25-20.
  • Set 2: The teams traded blows in a back-and-forth battle, but Canyons edged out Bakersfield 27-25.
  • Set 3: Bakersfield kept the pressure on, but Canyons capitalized on key plays to take the set 25-22.
  • Set 4: Bakersfield bounced back in dominating fashion, winning 25-16 and forcing a fifth set.
  • Set 5: In the decisive set, Canyons surged ahead, closing out the match with a 15-7 win.

Sophomore Stevie Yursik dominated for BC with 26 kills on 50 attempts, hitting .420 and 11 digs. Teammate Kamryn Briggs followed with 11 kills while Chloe Comstock and Chloe Lopez helped defensively. Comstock had 24 assists with two services aces while Lopez finished with a personal best of 22 digs. Bakersfield hit .301 overall and posted 19 total blocks, led by Alexandra Watts and Carly Hayes.

With this loss, Bakersfield improved its record to 12-9 overall and 6-3 in conference play. They will head out for a road match on Wednesday, November 6th, and return home on November 8th for their sophomore night at 6:00 pm.
