Cuesta Softball finished its 2025 regular season by splitting a doubleheader against #15 Citrus. The Cougars took the opener, 7-5, and jumped out to an identical lead, 7-5, midway through the nightcap, but, at the onset of dusk, the Fighting Owls battled back and forced the split, 9-7. The Owls, as the leading team in the Western State Conference South Division, have already earned an automatic playoff berth, while the Cougars, who finished 3rd in the WSC-North, are trying to make their second straight trip to the post-season, however they must earn an at-large bid from this weekend's seeding meeting. Cuesta is 23-14 on the season and boasts one more win this season than they did as a playoff team in 2023, but last year their runner-up finish in the WSC earned them an automatic berth. Returning all-WSC performers Hailey Hallford and Danya Boyd led the Cougars offense in today's doubleheader. The duo combined to go 4-for-6 on the day with two runs scored and three driven in.
The Cougars are locked in 3rd place in the WSC and must wait on their playoff hopes until after this weekend's seeding meeting. The post-season is scheduled to begin next Tuesday, April 29.
