SANTA BARBARA, Calif. – Santa Barbara City College reclaimed a share of the Western State Conference title on Friday, securing an 11-1 record following wins over Cuesta College and Moorpark College.
After back-to-back runner-up finishes the past two seasons, the Vaqueros earned a return to the top of the standings for the first time since 2021-22. Santa Monica College also finished conference play at 11-1, making the two programs co-champions.
The decisive moment came against Moorpark when Charlotte Wilson and Brielle Smith clinched the 3-2 team victory with a dominant performance in the fifth match, winning in straight sets 21-11, 21-12.
SBCC posted a 4-1 win over Cuesta. Tana Long and Lily Husek swept both of their matches, as did Sage Thorne-Thomsen and Madelynn Papia, helping seal the title.
The Vaqueros return to competition on Friday for the start of the WSC Pairs Tournament.
