Owls Down Cougars

Citrus College Softball traveled to College of the Canyons yesterday, defeating the Cougars 12-4. 

The Owls picked up their fifth win of the season to improve to 5-11 overall, while College of the Canyons goes to 10-6 overall on the season. 

Citrus College scored 12 runs yesterday, their second most runs scored of the season, seven of those runs coming in the first four innings. 

Ava Camarena hit an RBI double to score Alivia Martinez in the top of the first inning to give the Owls a 1-0 lead. 

Alivia Martinez drove in Harmony Torres with an RBI single to put the Owls up 2-0 in the second inning. 

Harmony Torres and Sofia Femath each hit RBI singles in the top of the third inning as the Owls went up 4-0. Citrus added three runs in the top of the fourth inning off two passed balls that advanced Jaelynn Eaves, Ava Camarena and Rylee Praytor to score. 

In the bottom of the fourth inning, the Cougars added three runs to make the score 7-3. 

The Owls bats came alive in the top of the fifth and seventh innings as Jaelynn Eaves hit an RBI single in each inning. Rylee Praytor hit an RBI double in the top of the seventh inning and the next at-bat Eliana Lopez hit an RBI triple to drive in Praytor, giving the Owls a commanding 12-3 lead. 

Canyons scored one run in the bottom of the seventh as Caitlin Kelley closed out the game, her second consecutive complete game win. 

The Owls racked up 15 hits as a team with six batters having multiple hits in the game. Rylee Praytor led the Owls going 3-for-4 with three runs scored and one RBI. Jaelynn Eaves went 2-for-2 with two RBIs, three runs scored and three walks. Alivia Martinez and Ava Camarena each went 2-for-3 with two runs scored, one RBI and one stolen base. Harmony Torres went 2-for-3 with one run scored, one RBI and one stolen base, while Sofia Femath went 2-for-5 with one RBI. 

Caitlin Kelley pitched all seven innings, striking out three batters and only allowed four runs to the Cougars, who average 7.4 runs per game. 

Citrus College will travel to San Diego Mesa College for a doubleheader today, March 7th with games scheduled at 1 p.m. and 3 p.m.
