SANTA MARIA, Calif. - The Allan Hancock College softball team split a Saturday doubleheader showing against Ohlone College at the AHC Softball Field after a pair of non-conference games. The Bulldogs move to 7-14 overall, while the visiting Renegades hold an updated record of 14-19 on the season.
Hancock capitalized on timely hitting and defensive pressure in the opening game to secure a 5-4 win. The Bulldogs struck early and maintained control, taking advantage of three Ohlone errors and stranding 10 opposing runners on base.
Despite the Renegades outhitting AHC 6-2, the home squad's ability to execute in key moments made the difference while their defense stayed composed down the stretch to close out the one-run win. Jonessa Marquez headlined the event with a double that produced two RBIs while three others drove in one run apiece.
Khaelii Robertson-Mack picked up her first win in the circle with a six-inning showing. That effort allowed two earned runs on six hits.
In the second game of the doubleheader, the Bulldogs jumped out to an early 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first, but were unable to add on as Ohlone responded with three unanswered runs. Hancock managed four hits in the contest and showed discipline at the plate, but was ultimately held in check by strong opposing pitching.
Tori Salazar produced two of the team's four hits, while Robertson-Mack and Katy Matthews each knocked once.
Freshman pitcher Havanah Michel was charged with the loss after a complete-game performance in the circle. She allowed just three runs across seven innings while inducing 10 groundouts and recording two strikeouts.
