Softball uses 2 come from behind wins to propel them into 2nd place in WSC North standings to keep play-off hopes alive.
The Raider Softball team opened the week hosting Hancock before traveling across the county to take on Oxnard to close out this week. The Raiders, who were sitting in 3rd place, a game out of 2nd place, defeated the Bulldogs in come from behind fashion, 7-5. The following day, Oxnard took a 3-0 lead into the 5th inning before the Raiders woke up and outscored the Condors, 9-3 to get their 2nd win of the week.
With the two wins, the Raiders are now 9-3 in WSC North and 19-11 overall going into the last week of the regular season.
nextThe visiting Bulldogs raced out to a 5-0 lead going to the Raider bottom half of the 5th. With two outs, Amanda Smith singled and the next batter Ashlyn Olson reached on a throwing error. Danielle Bishop walked to load the bases and Camila Dalmau walked to make the score 5-1 after 5 innings. Smith pitched a 1,2,3 top half of the 6th to keep it 5-1.
Tatum Reyes opened the botom half of the 6th with a walk. Leah Cowans followed Reyes with a walk, two on no outs. The next batter Kylie Kolkowski doubled in Cowans and Reyes to make the score 5-3, no outs. Kailey Greene grounded out for the 1st out. Amanda Smith singled home Kolkowski to make it 5-4, one out. Ashlyn Olson reached base on a throwing error. With Smith and Olson standing on 1st and 2nd, Danielle Bishop hit a bomb out to the soccer field and the Raiders took their first lead, 7-5 after 6 innings.
The Bulldog first two batters reached base with no outs. Hancock sacrificed to advance runners, two on one out. The very next Hancock batter roped a sharp liner and Camila Dalmau snared it and caught the runner leaning too far to get the double play and end the game.
At Oxnard, the Raiders were still in the vans when the Condors started the game going out to a 3-0 lead after 4 innings. In their top half of the 5th, the Raiders plated 5 runs highlighted by Kylie Kolkowski's 2 RBI double. Kolkowski got 2 more RBIs with a double in the 7th, when the Raiders would add 4 more runs.
The Raiders will host Ventura on Tuesday, April 15th at 2:30p and travel to Santa Barbara on Thursday, April 17th at 2:30p. to close out WSC North action. They will close out the regular season with a double header at Riverside on Friday, April 18th. A double header that was re-scheduled due to rain and field conditions.
