COD Women’s Basketball has rough 3rd quarter, falls to Cougars, 78-50
COD (1-6) had a 3rd straight 20+ point performance out of Audrey Tijerina, but the Roadrunners had a difficult 3rd quarter and fell on the road at the College of the Canyons Cougars of Santa Clarita (3-6), 78-50.
Unfortunately, this was the 5th game of the season where the Roadrunners had no reserves on the bench and all 5 had to play the entire 40 minutes.
Freshman starting guard Audrey Tijerina (La Quinta H.S.) led all scorers, with her season high 27 points on 11 of 27 shooting, going 3 of 15 from 3-point range and leading the team with 4 assists. Sophomore starting guard Esperanza Figueroa (Thermal Coachella Valley) had 13 points on 5 of 13 shooting, going 3 of 8 from beyond the arc and grabbing 8 total rebounds. Freshman starting guard Giovanna Espinoza (La Quinta H.S.) added 8 points on 3 of 17 shooting, while going 2 of 7 from 3-point range. Freshman forward Amia Johnson (Desert Hot Springs H.S.) contributed 8 boards and freshman guard Olivia Castaneda (Menifee Paloma Valley) dished out 3 assists.
The next game for the Roadrunners is in the first round of the VVC Rams Crossover in Victorville on Friday, December 13 at 5p against the LA Mission Eagles of Sylmar (4-3).
