VENTURA, CA - An hour into Wednesday's 3C2A Women's Tennis State Championship match, an American River three-peat was in doubt as the Bakersfield's No. 1 seed and No. 3 seed doubles captured a pair of wins early to start singles 2-1.
BC's Naomi Pavletich and Kayleah Sanchez provided the first score of the day with an 8-5 win in No. 3 doubles. Breanna Heibert and Hannah Kratt overcame a nervous start to take Court 1, 8-4, for a 2-0 Renegade lead. Unfortunately, the No. 2 doubles team of Taylor Crider and Kailani Lua fell 8-7.
Sadly, BC could only secure one singles win from Pavletich, who had clutch matches throughout the postseason. The rest of the five singles had some tough matches against the reigning Champions but could not kick off some early nerves. The Renegades fell, 5-3, to the Beavers.
