It was not the send off the Pirate baseball team was looking for Tuesday as they dropped a 7-1 decision against Santa Barbara in the 2025 home finale. Tommy Castaneda had a double and Frederico Tiburtini had an RBI single for VC. Grant Rodriguez walked and scored a run and Hunter Cervantes also recorded a single in the game.
The Pirates took the initial advantage in the bottom of the second inning. Rodriguez led off the frame with a walk and scored when Tiburtini singled, accompanied by a throwing error on the play.
The Vaqueros tied the game in the fourth inning and took the lead with a run in the fifth. They followed with another score in the sixth and four more runs in the top of the eighth.
Ventura (17-21, 12-11) will close the season at Hancock on Friday April 25 and at Compton on Saturday April 26.
