Not only did freshman Tatyana Cortez (La Serna HS) toss a complete game in a 7-1 win over host Bakersfield College on Saturday, she also hit her first home run of the season. The non-conference win improves the team's record to 27-7 overall, as the team will travel to Mt. San Antonio College on Tuesday for a 3:00 p.m. South Coast Conference game.

Cerritos opened the scoring in the top of the third inning when freshman outfielder Savannah Gonzalez (Whittier HS) led off with a single, stole second base and came around to score on an RBI double by freshman third baseman Marley Cortez (Gahr HS). With sophomore shortstop Ayiana Cardenas (Walnut HS) on second base after a single and advancing on a sacrifice bunt, Tatyana Cortez hit her first home run of the season to put the team in front, 3-0. She entered the game with only three at-bats on the year.

They increased their lead to 5-0 in the fifth inning, as sophomore catcher Vicky Najera (El Rancho HS) drove in a run on a fielder's choice that drove in sophomore outfielder Morgan Fontela (Long Beach Millikan HS), who singled, while freshman outfielder Carissa Amaya (El Rancho HS) drove in a run with a bases loaded walk. Gonzalez and Marley Cortez hit back-to-back solo home runs to lead off the sixth inning to close out the Falcons scoring.

Tatyana Cortez improved her record to 19-7, as she allowed one run on seven hits and struck out five batters. She also went 1-for-2 at the plate with a walk and two RBI.
