Ventura's Sophia Godina Honored as 5CTCA Runner of the Week

SALINAS - The 5CTCA would like to acknowledge the following runners for their outstanding performances for Week #4.  

Mt. San Antonio College may have found its next cross country state champion in freshman Matthew Donis. Donis produced the fastest 8km race for a two year community college athlete this season at the 42nd Annual UC Riverside Cross Country Invitational. Donis covered the 4.97 mile course in an astonishing 23:52 to place eighth overall in a four-year college/university field. 

Running at the Socal Preview Meet in Long Beach, Ventura College sophomore Sophia Godina notched her second consecutive victory of the 2023 season running 18:03 on the course that will serve as the regional championship location in November. Godina was the victor by 23 seconds and has gone unchallenged so far this season. 

Mateo Delgadillo of American River College continued his impressive freshman campaign with an easy victory at the Beaver Bash. Delgadillo led the Beavers to the overall team victory with his 20:36 and 43-second victory. Delgadillo has been one of the top freshmen in Northern California through the first three weekends of the season.

The American River Beaver women have Alanna Laverty leading their squad this fall. The freshman won her first race for the Beavers at the Beaver Bash. She was a comfortable winner by 30 seconds in 21:18 over the challenging course at the Sunset Whitney Recreational Area.
