ELK GROVE - For the first time ever in Marauder men's soccer history, Jose Mojica scored a hat trick Sunday evening in a 5-0 victory against Yuba College.
Mojica has been shredding opposing goal keepers all season. The freshman sniper now has eight goals on the season in only four games.
"The team is looking very good four our first year. We are all freshmen that want to play as sophomores and if we continue to battle and train very hard we will all be playing as sophomores and have a great season," Mojica said. "It is a great feeling knowing that I scored a hat trick this weekend and have that put in the record books. I couldn't have done it without my teammates and coaches."
AVC (2-1-1), has been playing well under first-year head coach Jerry Stupar.
It scored three three goals in the first half to take a commanding 3-0 lead. Mojica got things going in the first half with the first goal of the game (14:00). AVC took a 2-0 lead when Mojica set up John Rodriguez for the goal at 27:00.
Mojica put the icing on the victory with his final two goals (67:00 and 75:00) giving AVC the easy victory. Matthew Fletes has been on a tear as of late and finished with a goal and an assist. Christian Perez finished with two assists.
