The Hawks return to the State Final-four for the 10th time in the programs history, and for the 3rd consecutive year.
In a scrappy game on a wet field, both teams took time to adjust to the conditions. A resilient Santa Barbara team held the Hawks scoreless in the opening 45 minutes, but SCC dominated the second period and deservedly took the lead in the 65th minute. Chloe Helenihi put the Hawks ahead, scoring her 8th goal of the season on a perfectly weighted through-ball from Gigi Soto. SCC pushed for the second-goal, and Ashley Roskelly was unfortunate to see a powerful drive from close-range tipped over by the agile Vaquero keeper.
Alex Vanous headed the second goal from a rebound from Roskelly with ten minutes remaining, and the Hawks closed out the contest relatively comfortably, with Ariana Radilla collecting two saves in the shut-out.
The Hawks now travel to De Anza College in Cupertino for a semi-final game on Friday, December 6th. Both the game-time and opponent will be determined Monday evening.
Thanks to all those in attendance today, particularly the numerous program alumni, faculty and staff as well as College President John Hernandez and Board Members Zeke Hernandez and John Hanna.
