LANCASTER - For the second conference match in a row, the Marauder men's soccer team had to settle for a 1-1 tie, this time against Glendale College, Friday afternoon at Marauder Stadium.
AVC's strategy, according to head coach Jerry Stupar was to hold the Vaqueros to one goal or fewer. It definitely worked, however, following an early goal by Jose Mojica, only two minutes into the match, the Marauders couldn't find the net again.
"I'm happy the opportunities were there to finish, but our shot selection needs to improve," Stupar said. "Our goals for average needs to be greater or equal to two as it was in preseason, but it appears the conference hosts very defensive teams this year outside of Victor Valley. Overall I'm most happy that we fought hard from 0-90 minutes."
Mojica's goal came from an assist by Matthew Fletes, which shocked Glendale, however, the Vaqueros were able to buckle down on defense and later in the first half got a goal from Kento Nakajima to even the match. Mojica's goal gives him 14 on the season, ranking him fifth in the state.
The Marauders (4-5-4, 0-0-2) are in fourth place after tying their first two matches in conference. They trail first place Victor Valley College and Citrus and Glendale.
