LANCASTER - Despite Jose Mojica's 18th goal of the season, the Marauder men's soccer team was upset visiting Bakersfield College, 2-1, Tuesday afternoon at Marauder Stadium.
After being unbeaten in their first four matches of conference play, lost to a team which got its first conference win of the season.
"Bakersfield played very direct and did not attempt to possess the ball in transition sending everything 60 yards deep into our defensive block for almost the entire match," AVC head coach Jerry Stupar said. "Our issue today was we were off in finishing and handed them a goal in the box. It's very disappointing after being undefeated the entire first round of conference."
Mojica's unassisted goal, which ranks him fifth in the state in that category, was scored at the 17:00-minute mark of the first half, putting the Marauders (5-6-5, 1-1-3) up 1-0. However, the Renegades (3-10-3, 1-4) responded only 17 minutes later with a goal from Edwin Bernal. Bernal added an assist later in the match which helped propel his team to victory.
