Women's Basketball: Porterville opens West LA tourney with loss to Moorpark

Porterville College sophomore Sydney Tobias posted a double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds while Denisheun Jackson scored a game-high 22 points in a 74-57 loss to Moorpark College on Thursday in an opening-round game of the West LA College Tournament in Culver City.

With just two subs on the bench, the Pirates had a tough time keeping up with the Moorpark offense. Moorpark opened the contest with a 10-0 run and built a 46-25 lead at halftime. Porterville rebounded over the final two quarters and outscored Moorpark 32-28 the rest of the game but the 21-point deficit was too much to overcome.

Jackson added seven rebounds to go with her 22 points. It was just the second time she failed to record a double-double this season. Tobias scored in double figures for her the fourth straight game and earned her first double-double of the year.

Sophomore Lauren Beath also chipped in with 11 points. She's had double-digit scoring games in nine of 10 contests this season.

The loss dropped Porterville to 2-8 overall. The Pirates return to tournament play on Friday (Dec. 16) at 1 p.m. to face Imperial Valley College in a consolation-bracket game.
