The Moorpark College Women's Beach Volleyball squad wrapped up its first ever team championship recently with a 3-2 win over Ventura College. The win helped them hold off Bakersfield College (8-2) and Ventura College (7-3), as the Raiders finished 9-1 in WSC matches. On the pairs side, Bakersfield College's top pair of Brooke Horack and Jourdan Muro, originally seeded #3 in the individual championships, defeated teammates Alex Paris and Sarah Armendariz in the championship match.
Moorpark had a torrid start to their 2018 campaign defeating Santa Monica and Antelope Valley 4-1 and 5-0. The Raiders faced the tough Pirates squad of Ventura College next, edging them 3-2. Moorpark went out to rip of five more wins by a total of 22-3. In the final triad of the year, Moorpark fell in the opener to Bakersfield, before rallying with that previously mentioned 3-2 victory to wrap up the team title.
Horack and Muro meanwhile got off to an equally fast pace at the pairs championship, winning in straight sets all the way through to the championship match. That's when they squared off with their teammates who upset the #8 and #1 overall seeds in the tournament en route that championship match berth. In the match, Horack and Muro jumped out to a 21-18 win in the first set before falling 15-21 in set number two. In the third and final set, Horack and Muro just edged Paris and Armendariz 15-13 to claim the conference title.
