Ventura Claims Second WSC Beach Volleyball Crown

The Ventura College beach volleyball team finished the regular season with a pair of wins Friday at the Harbor Cove Courts at the Ventura Marina, claiming the program's second Western State Conference championship in the last three years. VC blanked Victor Valley 5-0 in the morning match to clinch the crown before finishing off their undefeated conference docket with a 4-1 win over Moorpark. Brooklyn Wallet and Faith Mackie led the way with a pair of big wins, allowing 30 points in four sets of competition for the Pirates (16-4, 12-0). | ORIGINAL RELEASE

In the morning match, VC earned the championship outright with a 5-0 victory over Victor Valley. Wallet and Mackie won their No. 4 match 21-3, 21-4, while Morgan Gallagher and Jordan Neria won at No. 2, 21-7, 21-7.  Raphaella Rosales and Vanessa Ihrke prevailed at No. 1, 21-8, 21-13, and Shantalle Ruiz and Kasie Spencer won at No. 3, 21-7, 21-11. Kambria Dowling and Payton Greiner won with a forfeit at No. 5 to complete the sweep.

In the afternoon, the Pirates completed their conference season undefeated with a 4-1 win over Moorpark. Dowling and Kayla Hosch won big at No. 5, 21-10, 21-3 while Wallet and Mackie produced another victory at No. 4, 21-14, 21-9. Ruiz and Spencer swept the No. 3 spot, 21-15, 21-14 and Gallagher and Neria won a three-set thriller at No. 2, 21-19, 16-21, 15-12. 

The Pirates will host the opening round of the WSC pairs tournament on Wednesday, April 24, beginning at 10:00 am before traveling to Santa Monica on Friday, April 26, for the conference pairs finals. The CCCAA Southern California Regionals will be held Tuesday April 30 at a location to be determined.
