For the fourth time in the last seven years, the Santa Barbara City College Baseball team found itself on top of the Western State Conference North Division standings come seasons end. The Vaqueros went 13-7 on the year, and finished with a two-game lead over second place Cuesta College.

The Vaqueros clinched the title in their second to last game of the season. The Vaqueros defeated a scrappy Ventura College squad 6-5, getting the game winning run in the bottom of the sixth inning, when Reinhard Lautz scored on a double-steal attempt with runners on the corners. The score put Santa Barbara up 6-5, as David Appleby and Jake Holton combined to shut down the Pirate offense over the final three innings of the contest.

It's the fifth overall WSC title for the Vaqueros. Santa Barbara finished the regular season 23-16 and were seeded #6 and will host #11 Cypress College in the regional round of competition in the 2017 CCCAA Southern California Baseball Playoffs.
