Ventura Represents WSC in Individual State Championships

The Western State Conference was well represented by Ventura College at the 2013 California Community College Athletic Association Single and Doubles State Championships. Ventura got a runer-up finish on the singles side, and won a State Championship in doubles.

Freshman Vitor Mendes, the #7 seed in the State Championship tournament, lost a tough three set match in his runner-up finish at the championships. Mendes lost 4-6, 6-1, 6-0 to Fresno's Sam Bertram.

In the double finals, it was another Ventura group that won the State Title. Hans Baumstark and Tom Douglass, the #3 seed headed into the tournament, came back from being shutout in the first set 0-6, to win the next two sets 6-3 and 6-4 to claim the State Championship.
