Ventura's Emary and Abreu Capture WSC Doubles Crown

VC's Cody Ray Emery and Lucas Abreu won the Western State Conference men's doubles title on the final day of the WSC Championships Saturday at the VC Tennis Center. Additionally, Robinson Pelluault and Edgar Ploquin qualified for the 3C2A State Championships through the doubles back draw and Abreu punched his ticket to The Ojai in singles play. | ORIGINAL RELEASE

Emery and Abreu won their semifinal doubles match against a team from Glendale, 6-4, 6-4 before posting a 6-4, 6-1 victory over a duo from Bakersfield in the final.

Pelluault and Ploquin posted an 8-2 win over a pair from Glendale in the back draw before defeating teammates Cooper Rowlands and Tiebe Verschaeve in the back draw final to qualify for state.

In singles play, Emery claimed silver in the men's draw after dropping a 6-4, 6-1 decision to Glendale while Abreu won his back draw with a 6-2, 6-21 triumph over a player from Bakersfield.

The Pirates qualified five singles players for the state championships at The Ojai on April 25-28, including Emery, Rafael MatiasJulian Tellez, Abreu, and Robinson Pelluault. VC also will send three doubles pairs to state including Emery and Abreu, Matias and Tellez, and Pelluault and Ploquin.

Meanwhile, the 3C2A State Southern California Regional Playoffs will be announced on Sunday with Ventura likely hosting a first round match-up on Tuesday, April 9.
